After morning breakfast departure to Tirupati city, which is famous for Tirupati Temple. By road covering 140 km in approx. 3 hr. Transfer to Tirupati. On arrival, check in at hotel. In the afternoon proceed for Darshan of LORD BALAJI. The ancient and sacred temple of Sri Venkateswara is located on the seventh peak, Venkatachala (Venkata Hill) of the Tirupati Hill, and lies on the southern banks of Sri Swami Pushkarini. It is by the Lord’s presidency over Venkatachala, that He has received the appellation, Venkateswara (Lord of the Venkata Hill). He is also called the Lord of the Seven Hills. The temple of Sri Venkateswara has acquired unique sanctity in Indian religious lore. The Sastras, Puranas, Sthala Mahatyams and Alwar hymns unequivocally declare that, in the Kali Yuga, one can attain mukti, only by worshipping Venkata Nayaka or Sri Venkateswara. The benefits acquired by a piligrimage to Venkatachala are mentioned in the Rig Veda and Asthadasa Puranas. In these epics, Sri Venkateswara is described as the great bestower of boons. Day 3 : Tirupati - Chennai
After morning breakfast departure to Chennai by road covering 140 km in approx. 3 hr. Check in at hotel in Chennai. Relax in the evening. Over night at Chennai.
Day 4 : Chennai - Mahabalipuram
After morning breakfast departure to Mahabalipuram by road covering 58 Km in approx. 1 hr Breakfast at hotel. On arrival, check in at hotel. In the afternoon sight seeing of Mahabalipuram - famous for the seven pagodas. It is believed that there were seven magnificent temples what are known as the seven pagodas, built near the sea share. But the lonely survivor is the shore temples. It was originally constructed during the 7th century and later it was Narasimha Varman II, (Rajasimha) completed the skilled work in his rule. This is one of the oldest of the south Indian Temples which were structural temples constructed in the nature Dravidian style. This shore temple has gained popularity and tourists gather here because it has been listed among the world heritage sites of the UNESCO. The temple is full of designs made by carvings. Day 5 : Mahabalipuram
After breakfast, proceed for morning sight seeing. The Mamallpuram beach adds beauty to the pallava constructions. There are green and lush casuarinas groves which add further colour to the surroundings. The sunrise and sunset looks exuberant and tourists will surely enjoy the ambiance. One can observe the light fading away to night, the waning moon, the shining and glittering stars and the murmuring waves add glory tot his place. People would certainly love to enjoy this tourist resort. STHALASAYANA PERUMAL TEMPLE, this is located in the heart of Mahabalipuram. It was originally built by the pallava kings, but later on there have been many alternations to the temple. It is told that the pallava kings and the artists of their times discussed about their art and architecture here. Museums are very important fro a place as it speaks and proves of the history of a place. The museums have a lot of preserved things which were used during the ancient times. The pallava kings too used various weapons and tools and other things which are found to be preserved in the museums listed below. The Archaeological survey of India museum is located on the west raja street near the lighthouse. It preserves pallava sculptures recovered from mahabalipuram and its surroundings. One can enjoy the natural scenery from here nearby the New Lighthouse is the old Lighthouse named as Olakaneswara which means the flame eyed shiva. This was used during the rule of Rajasimha (678 - 800 A.D). It has no images and was used as light house until the beginning of the 20th century. Now it is not in use. TIGER CAVE, this is near Salurankuppam. This is a coastal village of 5 Kilometers north of mahabalipuram on the Kovalam Road. This is a magnificent mandapa which contains a shrine dedicated to goddess Durga which has big beautiful figures in front. The deposition here is on the battle of Goddess Durga and Mahishasura. There are number of charges in this Mandapam from that of the Mahishasura Mardini Mandapam. The figure of somaskanda is found in Athiranachanda Mandapa to the south of Tiger care. This too is a popular picnic spot. Over night at hotel.
Day 6 : Mahabalipuram - Tanjore
After morning breakfast departure to Tanjore, by road covering 309 km in approx. 7 hr. Reach and relax at hotel. In the afternoon drive to Tanjore also known as Thanjavur The rice bowl of TAMIL NADU. Proceed for sight seeing of Tanjore. Thanjavur lies to the east of Trichy and has the reputation as the "Rice Bowl of Tamil Nadu". The Tamil University, set up recently is situated here and is devoted to the growth of Tamil literature and language. One of the best temples in South India, the Brihadeeswarar Temple or the Big Temple built by the greatest Chola emperor Raja Raja Chola, is that dynasty's finest contribution to Dravidan temple architecture. If the Big Temple is an ancient landmark of Thanjavur, the Tamil University a Temple of learning could be spoken of, as its modern counterpart with its impressive temple-like facade along with its library housed in a circular building resembling the architectural style of India's parliament. Day 7 : Tanjore - Trichy - Tanjore
After morning breakfast full day excursion to the city of Trichy. Visit the ancient temples dedicated to Lord Ganapathi, 434 steps cut out into the rock side and interspersed with shrines, lead to the temple. Tiruchirappalli, situated on the banks of the river Cauvery is the fourth largest city in Tamil Nadu. It was a citadel of the early Cholas which later fell to the Pallavas. Trichy is a fine blend of tradition and modernity built around the Rock Fort. Apart from the Fort, there are several Churches, Colleges and Missions dating back to the 1760s. The town and its fort, now in Trichy were built by the Nayaks of Madurai. This city has given great Tamil scholars whose contributions to the Tamil literature have been very significant. The most famous land mark of this bustling town is the Rockfort Temple, a spectacular monument perched on a massive rocky out crop which rises abruptly from the plain to tower over the old city. It was one of the main centers around which the wars of the Carnatic were fought in the 18th century during the British-French struggle for supremacy in India. The city is a thriving commercial centre in Tamil Nadu and is famous for artificial diamonds, cigars, handloom cloth, glass bangles and wooden and clay toys. Return to hotel and relax. Day 8 : Tanjore
Breakfast at hotel. See the beautiful Chola temple of Brihadeeshwara. Sri Brihadeeswarar Temple, built by the great Chola King, Rajaraja.1 in the 10th century AD is an outstanding example of Chola architecture. The Palace, the Palace near the temple is a vast building of masonry built partly by the Nayaks around 1550 AD and partly by the Marathas. Art Gallery, in the Palace there are a number of granite and bronze statues of the Chola period. Saraswathi Mahal Library: In another section of the palace is a library where over 30,000 palm leaves and paper manuscripts in Indian and European languages are preserved. Royal Museum, located in the palace complex, this museum has mixed collections like manuscripts, weapon dresses, Utensils, Musical instruments used by the Royal Family of Thanjavur. Schwartz Church, built in 1779 AD by Rajah Serfoji in token of his affection for the Rev. C.V.Schwartz of the Danish Mission. Sivaganga Tank, near the Palace is this tank known for its sweet water. Tamil University (7 km): Established in 1981 is engaged in research and Advanced study in Tamil. Sharja Madi, it is located in the Palace complex. One can have panaromic view of Thanjavur city. Day 10 : Madurai
Breakfast at hotel. Freshen up and by afternoon visit the famous Madurai Meenakshi temple dedicated to the consort of Lord Shiva with its towering GOPURAMS. MEENAKSHI TEMPLE - Located at the heart of the city, the Meenakshi- Sundareswarar temple has long been the focus of both Indian and international tourist attraction as well as one of the most important places of Hindu pilgrimage. For the people of Madurai, the temple is the very centre of their cultural and religious life. While the major festivals of Tamil Nadu are celebrated here with gaiety that equals the rest of the state, the most important moment in Madurai is the Chittirai festival that is held in April/May, when the celestial marriage of Meenakshi and Sundareswarar is celebrated, drawing a huge crowd of people from all over the state.This pre-Christian era temple was actually built by Kulasekara Pandya but it was in ruins before it was rebuilt by Tirumalai Nayak who brought back the glory to this magnificent structure. Of its 12 gopurams, four of the tallest stand at the outer walls of the temple. The 48.4m high southern gopuram is the most spectacular and has over 1500 sculptures. From its top, it is possible to obtain a panoramic view of the city. The Rajagopuram on the eastern side is an unfinished structure, which has a 174-sq.ft base, and had this tower been completed, it would surely have been the largest of its kind in the country. Rameshwaram is significant for the Hindus as a pilgrimage to Benaras is incomplete without a Pilgrimage to Rameshwaram.
